If you can mind your own business in life; you gain a lot of benefits that would help you enjoy a peaceful life. Minding your own business all the time shows maturity.
In life, we come into contact with many people with different issues that concerns us or may have nothing to do with us. But for everyone to know his or her personal boundaries sometimes becomes a huge problem to talk about. Knowing how to mind your own business in the rightful situation can do you a whole lot of help.
In this post, I will share with you the reasons why you should mind your own business, the benefits, and instances you may be forced to break this ethical behavior.
Most often people use this statement in a rude way to prevent others from interfering with their personal matters. Yes! Of course, you should mind your own business and stop being inquisitive.
It might sound like you are a gossiper when you develop a great interest in other people’s lives that doesn’t concern you. My friend, don’t think about them and don’t say anything about them. Go out there and do your own thing.
“We call talking about other people’s personal lives ‘gossip’ only if we aren’t or weren’t part of the conversation”
—Mokokoma Mokhonoana
Get to understand that to mind your business isn’t about running your personal established business or company. I mean this statement isn’t to be taken on literal grounds. It is about respecting each other’s personal boundaries.
Reasons Why You Should Mind Your Own Business
1. You become awesome and respected when you mind your own business:
Anyone who is capable of minding his own business is undoubtedly awesome!. This very person commands a lot of respect. For anyone else to show maturity by not stepping in people’s matters uninvited shows a high level of maturity.
Let’s say you see two friends arguing vehemently about the taste of the food they ate yesterday, you can sit there and do your own thing because what those two friends ate has nothing to do with your life.
When they get tired or satisfied with their arguments, they will go away or get close to you with different and important matter and that could be in a form of conversation that concerns your thoughts.
Be gentle enough to speak your mind in a respectful way and in turn the respect will come back to you. Like we all know, respect is reciprocal.
That is how it will make you look awesome because you know:
♦. Your personal boundaries
♦. When to talk and when not to talk
♦. What is necessarily talking about and what is not necessarily talking about?
In this case, your friends or anyone who knows about your awesomeness will present only reasonable topics to you seeking your advice and help.
2. You become productive when you mind your own business:
Minding your own business helps you become very efficient in life by being successful in almost everything you do. This is true because you will have no time for drama.
And since time is money; you would be able to utilize the little moment you have while you also make good use of your energies.
The time people would be used to gossip and interfere in other people’s business would be the time for you to focus on your life and your own business.
Don’t be surprised to know that refusing to mind your own business to gossip about people is a sin in the Bible.
Utilizing your time will make you invest much in whatever you are doing. Assuming you are a baker, you bake 100 loaves of bread a day. If you visit your friend to gossip about his or her marriage problems by spending two or three hours there. What have you done?.
In the end, you will realize that the hours spent there has been a wastage. I usually don’t like referring to unproductive situations like this as wastage but only if the person learns a lesson from it, then I wouldn’t call it a wastage but a “lesson”.
If the person learns the lesson I am talking about and spends the two hours or three hours of gossip time in his or her bakery; the output could shift from 100 loaves a day to 200 loaves a day. This is one great importance of minding your own business.
3. Peace and happiness results from minding your own business:
When you mind your own business you are always at peace with yourself. Since you don’t call for drama and drama don’t call you; you are always at peace to plan for your life on how to achieve your goals.
When you see him sitting on his rocking chair or at the balcony or backyard, you dare not go there interrupt his peace with nagging questions. There is nothing sweeter than having peace of mind. It helps you to explore and develop new ideas to better your life.
4. Minding your business wades away enemies:
When you always focus on your own life activities your enemies will never get you to mock at, all their evil plans would not materialize.
Look, people may disguise themselves as good friends but in reality, they hate you. I want you to develop the mindset that; nobody cares, so work harder on your goals.
They might set a trap to get you into argument or destruction but since you focus on minding your own business; their plans wouldn’t be anything for you to take a glance at.
You would be free from all their traps because you are too busy doing your own thing. You are all occupied about your daily routines or work. It certainly sets you free from troubles.
After telling you about why minding your own business is good for you, I would like to draw your attention to something crucial in life that disrupts the idea of following this ethic.
You May Refuse To Mind Your Own Business
You ought to be concerned about fighting for justice for our fellow humans, we must mind what our neighbor is going through he/she is in need.
So in certain crucial situations, you can’t be concerned about people’s lives. Because we have divine responsibilities to help and protect people when they are in painful situations
Here I will cite a few examples.
Let’s say you are at the roadside and you see armed robbers at a distance, in this case, would you mind your own business?. Hell no! because lives are at risks so the best thing for you to do is simple, just call for the police.
That is part of our civil rights. Here you have to mind that business that is not yours. If I have said you should always mind your business it doesn’t mean when you see your friend in life-threatening situations you should refuse to offer help. No, please don’t do that.
Would you stand there and watch a friend commit suicide without preventing him?. Look, you don’t need his permission before you interrupt. If there is any crime involve them he is to be charged not you.
The Bad Side For Minding Your Business
Again you shouldn’t mind your own business when you see a friend’s house on fire. Help quench it or call the firefighters for immediate intervention.
This makes you a good citizen. A few years ago in Ghana, the government awarded a taxi driver with a house, a brand new car, and some amount of money for knocking down armed robbers who were trying to escape after the robbery.
The taxi driver didn’t mind his own business but he did the right thing which helped him get an award from the Ghanaian government. However, his identity was not disclosed for security reasons. You must be our brother’s keeper as the Bible has said.
In conclusion, it is advisable for everyone to mind his or her own business and at the same time know when to cross boundaries and when not to cross boundaries.
This shows maturity in life. So we should all-wise up to know when to interfere with people’s lives and when not to interfere with people’s personal lives.
