Getting Yourself Started

“Promise Yourself
To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
to every person you meet.
…make all your friends feel
that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make your optimism come true.
To think only the best, to work only for the best,
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past
and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud words but great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on your side
so long as you are true to the best that is in you.”

A piece of advice to do what makes you happy is good. But it doesn’t give you the power to play around people, nature, and things. When the adrenaline is driving you beyond normal; you must stop. There is a limit to everything just like there is time for everything.

It all begins with yourself. But remember these simple facts while you think of doing things that make you happy. We are surrounded by laws, systems, beliefs, unseen forces, etc. And all these could have a direct or indirect effect on you.

Why don’t you play by the rules while catching up on some fun? Nature is watching you with its natural laws. Other regulatory bodies too are keeping an eye on you. So let’s assume you have decided to play by the rules… That freedom of happiness is unlimited.

Without breaking any law, nor stepping on a friend’s toe; you could go all around the world to enjoy life. By getting to know what millions of people are doing to enjoy life; you would be thrilled to have a share of the cake. Life is beautiful and it depends on how you see it and how you make it.

It’s unfortunate many are living the lives of other people. They have failed to be different from the crowd. Comparison has been the greatest enemy making people lose their unique abilities to unearth their full potentials.

Not everything that your friends enjoy doing would make you happy. You have different hobbies and tastes for things around you. It would be wise to always go in for your favorite. There is nothing to be afraid of; unless your choice or decision is abnormal or breaks the rules of the game.

Why You Should Do What Makes You Happy

Many of us have to deal with cognitive biases all the time. It is something that steals people’s sense of happiness. By knowing how to deal with such kind of negative emotions, you embrace yourself with things you are so passionate about.

Involving yourself in the things that genuinely make you happy helps you to stay healthy, positive and enjoy a longer life. You know why?. Because you have been actively engaging that neurochemical responsible for your good mood feeling.

It’s good to do what makes you happy only if you don’t break the laws. Or only if you don’t incur any negative effect like what people usually call “the law of cause and effect.” Some call it “karma.” In the Bible, we say you reap what you sow.

Things To Acknowledge Whiles You Put Yourself In Happy Mood

There are innumerable things you can do to be happy. When children are out there on the playground, what happens?. They’ve got so many choices. Not every kid would fancy rollercoaster. It’s actually not for the faint-hearted.

We can relate this to ourselves. We are mature enough to choose between the exact things that make us kill boredom or release stress. This helps to get away with the little things stealing away our happiness while we enjoy the ride; remember these things below:

1. You Are Imperfect Being

While I remind you to do what makes you happy, embrace your imperfection as a mortal being. There is no need to stress yourself. Because there is no one to impress. Just be yourself. Whether you choose to do indoor games or outdoor games; remember to enjoy all the fun without feeling awkward.

2. Be Scared by doing new things

It is believed that by doing things that scare the hell out of you — makes you happy. Like the first time, you tried to ride a bicycle or did something crazier like paragliding. This is a matter of facing your fears and breaking through with flying colors. Just focus on the feeling of accomplishment. Fear can prevent you from having the best of fun or any beneficial experiences.

You actually have a target for doing the things that make you happy. But when you break down what seems to take your breath away; you develop a sense of greatness.

3. Don’t Neglect What You Are Passionate About

While you want to do what makes you happy; don’t wander far away. Because you already have what makes you feel proud. Even if there is nothing like motivation; you would still love to do it. By sticking to the things you are passionate about – you would always feel like the happiest person on earth.

This reminds me of a friend who is fond of singing. This friend has got an angelic voice. With so many songs to choose from; she can sing for several hours.

Now, I believe there is something you are also passionate about. You could be a music nerd. That’s simple. Turn on your stereo and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of music.

4. You Are Not In Competition With Anyone

This is all about you and what makes you smile. Don’t think of what people say about your life. As long as you mind your own business — you should be good with what you do. Do not live to impress anyone. They don’t even care. If you would be in competition with anyone: It should be yourself. Yea! Challenge yourself to be the best in the things you like most.

Being happy with yourself shows maturity. In other words, self-love is one of the secrets to true happiness. Be proud of who you are. And don’t ever make the mistake of comparing yourself with anyone.

Finally, it is good to do what makes you happy. But don’t forget to know your limit. This world is full of checks and balances. While you enjoy all the fun in life; remember to obey the law.

Take responsibility for the things happening in your life. Avoid too many excuses and do the things that bring the best in you. Think about that!.
