You can’t please God as a Christian without having faith in him. The Bible says even if you have a little faith like a mustard seed, you can move mountains.
No one is exempted from life struggles and the pains involve. Should we keep on lamenting as if we have nothing to hope for? Have you heard about having little faith like a mustard seed? Do you know what it means and how to relate to it in real life? I will share something insightful with you today to boost your confidence in the Lord irrespective of your circumstances.
A Christian’s life would not always be sunny. The bad weather will come at the right season; perhaps to test your faith in God. Being a child of God doesn’t mean you would always find life easy.
Johnny Cash was right when he said Christianity isn’t for sissies but real men who are ready to fight the good fight to the end.
As a believer, sometimes God will take you through testing just like how He tested Abraham and the people of Israel. You must therefore understand that the testing of your faith will prove your faithfulness to God or the other way round. You must be real to endure any pain or suffering through the power of Christ Jesus.
Often, a so-called Christian would have to choose between “the will of God“, “God’s time” and that of his anxious feelings.
Listen to that little voice inside your head called “conscience.” What does it say to you when you are faced with fear and other problems in life? Concentrate on the voice of God.
Having Faith Like A Mustard Seed Meaning
Jesus made that statement in the scriptures. Take a look here:
“The Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you would tell this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you” (Luke 17:6).
There is a conditional clause there being “if you had.” So it’s a choice to have faith in Jesus Christ or turn your back on him for whatever invalid reason you have.
Jesus made that saying after a question from his Apostles who were uncertain about the power of faith in God —just like most of us Christians.
The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” The most important thing I want you to know here is that; it is not all about having a strong faith or being boastful about putting your trust in him.
The truth here is —God is not concerned about how much faith you have, but putting the little you have rightly in him. It is about being genuine in your heart that with God all things are possible. Never be indifferent or doubtful.
Besides, if you could live life with a strong faith like Abraham, then you should keep it up. Christianity is made up of infants and adults in the faith and the knowledge of God. Some are still being fed with milk as Paul once said.
Please it’s not that breast milk, fresh milk, or any other milk in the market but “Spiritual Milk” being the word of God.
Even if your small faith in God is like a mustard seed, you can move mountains.
Jesus also reminded us that we should not cause the little ones to sin against God. We should never become stumbling blocks for others who are God’s children or have the feelings of being followers of Christ Jesus.
Let us, therefore, share the faith we have. Faith comes from the word of God so that is the best place you can find the courage to fight against anything that tries to detail you from the salvation of our Lord Jesus.
I always try to remind my readers that; our foundation as Christians is based on faith in Christ Jesus and even if your faith is little like a mustard seed, you can move the world itself.
“So he said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20).
The scriptures about faith and mustard seeds remind us of our Christian faith, duties, and gratitude. This ultimately leads to our salvation, the greatest gift for every true believer.
Why A Mustard Seed?
A mustard seed is known to be the smallest of all seeds. Its size ranges from 1 millimeter to 2 millimeters in diameter. But when it grows it reaches the height of 6 feet and becomes the biggest plant in a garden.
So Jesus used the mustard seed as an illustration of faith in the best scenario. The little you have in your heart can even do wonders. What do you think if your faith is bigger? Haha…
The Parable of the mustard seed foretells the expansion of the kingdom of God, which also relates to the growth of the Church. From two people to a whole community who shares the faith in Christ Jesus.
Growth In Faith For Christians And The Church
The significance of mustard seed growing and becoming bigger than any garden plant is relative to the growth of individual Christians and the Church at large.
When a mustard seed is planted —it grows and increases in size. Its branches become so large that birds perch in its shade. This means you must grow in faith and demonstrate that everywhere you find yourself.
Let that be seen by everyone because you are the light of the world and so must shine for everyone to see. Let people easily identify you as a true child of God.
Never allow the turbulence of life to drive you away from the little faith in you. You are a mustard plant, grow up!
Test How Genuine Your Faith Is
Apostle Paul recommended all believers test their faith if it is genuine. Like I said earlier, you must have genuine faith in Christ Jesus even if it is small as a mustard seed.
“Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize regarding yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you – unless, indeed, you fail the test!” (2 Corinthians 13:5).
May God help you to grow in genuine faith now and forevermore. God is always looking for a loyal heart to bless!
Bible Verses About Faith And Mustard Seed
We can find Bible verses about mustard seeds and faith in the gospels of Matthew, Luke, and Mark.
1. “He set another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field; which indeed is smaller than all seeds. d But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches” (Matthew 13:31 – 32).
2. “Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD considered his response of faith as proof of genuine loyalty” (Genesis 15:6).
3. “An evil person suffers much pain, but the LORD’s faithfulness overwhelms the one who trusts in him” (Psalms 32:10).
4. “And he said, “To what will we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable will we use for it? It’s like a mustard seed, which, when it is sown upon the soil, though it is less than all the seeds l that are upon the soil, And when it is sown, grows up, and becomes greater than all the garden plants, and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the sky can lodge under its shadow” (Mark 4:31 – 32).
5. “So, brothers and sisters, I could not speak to you as spiritual people, but instead as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. I fed you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready. You are still not ready” (1 Corinthians 3:1 -2)
In Summation

It simply means even if you have very little faith in God with a pure heart, you can see God’s power working in your life. You don’t necessarily have to have bigger faith.
