Understanding How Faith Comes By Hearing In 5 Simple Ways

Understanding How Faith Comes By Hearing In 5 Simple Ways

The world must hear about the amazing salvation plan of God. But how would one believe in his word? Proclaim it — Faith comes by hearing. This is the assurance of your redemption.

A family going to church

By walking with God, you must have faith in him. Although we can’t see him — nature depicts his power and existence. Have you figured out how faith comes by hearing the word of God?

I am here to remind you to confide in God through an unwavering faith —irrespective of your current or past circumstances. The Bible says faith comes by hearing. That is pretty simple. Everything Jesus thought and accomplished point to us to live by faith —not by sight. It begins by trusting or believing God. By having faith what glorious benefits do you enjoy? Keep reading and figure it out.

“So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

Understanding Faith

The Bible perfectly defines faith in this way:

“Now faith is being confident of what we hope for, convinced about things we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1).

Let’s break it down: It is made up of three different things:

1. Knowledge
2. Belief
3. Trust

It begins by being knowledgeable about God! Do you know him at all?

It’s a well-known idea in our Christiandom that faith comes by hearing about God and his purpose for us. By hearing what? You see anyone who calls himself a Christian must believe in the word of God after hearing it. I’m talking about the very word God used to create the world.

There is a saying that also goes like “seeing is believing.” Faith is much stronger than that— so we need not see it first.

Have You Heard About The Gospel At All?

There are many ways to get introduced to the word of God. And if it happens that you have heard about God’s message to mankind — then your faith should be lighted up! Faith comes by hearing and that is true. The word gives life!

“Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David” (Isaiah 55:11).

I believe I now have your attention. Faith in God through Christ Jesus is the foundation of your happiness, hopefulness, restoration, and more importantly, salvation.

This is the very thing you need to move mountains. Oh Yes, I’m talking about faith. It forms part of the armor of God as described in Ephesians 6:13; in verse 16 the Bible makes mention of “shield of faith.” This is very essential in your day to day activities.

Faith comes by hearing Bible verse

Personally, my faith in Jesus has yielded many fruits for me. And that is beyond my human reasoning. Oh yeah, I heard about the word when I was a kid. And I’ve been growing in faith now and then. This has also brought about my spiritual maturity.

Unfortunately, there are millions of people who haven’t heard about the word of God yet so “faith” is a foreign word to them. Ain’t we tasked to take the word to the whole world?

“He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15).

Many of us started hearing about Jesus Christ at a younger age because we were born into Christian families; others grew up, messed up with carnal lives before getting to know about the amazing salvation plan of God. By conversion, they share the same faith with us.

I have talked to a couple of Japanese friends about God and his only begotten son Christ Jesus and that sounded like the strangest music they have ever heard. Huh? The word never resonated well in their ears. Their silent expression goes like “stop bothering me with this fairy tale.

Religion is something they disregard. Christianity and the story of God’s salvation plan sounded like a fairy tale to them.

These friends I’m talking about feel threatened any time they hear about God. So the conversation would come to an abrupt end. They heard the word but the heart wasn’t ready — faith, therefore, has no place in their hearts.

My job is to let them hear about the gospel— not to convict them. I’m done! Conviction is the job of the Holy Spirit.

Be Ready — Incline Your Ears For The Sweet Word

God’s word is full of life and sweeter than honey.

“How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalms 119:103).

I would like to take a deeper insight into how faith comes by hearing as the Bible has said. How does this really work out?:

The ear perfectly collects the message, gives it to the mind to process it, and stimulates the heart to believe it. God’s message is the truth so our hearts have no valid excuse not to believe it. Unless you hardened your heart just like the atheist and the agnostic.

If people don’t hear about God, there wouldn’t be anything like faith in Him. So let’s push the message forward to help bring lost souls into the Kingdom of God. The world is coming to an end, so let proclaim this life-saving word to everyone.

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole inhabited earth as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come” (Matthew 24:14).

I have already felt that burden to actively take part in the soul-winning campaign around the world. There is nothing beautiful than telling the world about how God delights in giving eternal life to those who believe in him. The light of the world is still shining to give salvation to those who believe in him.

“Then he said to them, “The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send out laborers into his harvest” (Luke 10:2).

How Lydia Of Philippi Had Faith In God

Here, the Bible accounts that God opened the heart of a certain woman called Lydia to have faith in Jesus Christ. This happened when Apostle Paul preached the gospel to her and other people.

“A certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one who worshiped God, heard us; whose heart the Lord opened to listen to the things which were spoken by Paul.” (Acts 16:14)

Through hearing of the Word of God, Lydia believed. There is no valid excuse for those who refuse to believe in the word of God.

So, we can confident say God Is the only one who can open the heart of people who hear the Good News to believe. The Holy Spirit does the conviction and bring people to believe in God.

5 Simple Ways To Have Faith In God Through Hearing Of The Gospel

Faith indeed comes by hearing, but today there are various ways we can spread the gospel. Let me talk to you about a few of them.

1. Preaching/Evangelism

Preaching isn’t limited to Sunday church services alone; neither is it limited to particular confinement. We can preach the gospel to the whole world at anyplace.

“And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Romans 10:15).

A Pastor preaching

The listener hears about the word of God and wouldn’t have any valid reason not to believe. Through preaching, people get to know about God.

Those who are ready would accept the word and bear good fruits out of it. Anyone who rejects the word after hearing has already condemned himself.

Just like how the Parable of the sower presents to us the reward for the good listener and those who have plugged their ears to the gospel in Matthew 13.

Break Down Of The Parable

The farmer scattered the seeds(the word of God) on the ground:

1. Some fell by the roadside: Birds came to devour the seeds.

2. Others fell on rocky ground: there was inadequate soil to support their growth. After sprouting out, they withered because they had no strong root to withstand the scorching sun.

3. Other seeds fell among thorns and got choked. They germinated but at their tender stage; they got choked and unable to grow.

4. Finally, seeds that fell on good soil bore good fruits and multiplied.

Meaning Of The Parable Of The Sower

When Jesus spoke parables many couldn’t understand. He, therefore, explained in simple language:

1. Seeds on the roadside: They do not understand what is planted in their hearts so the Devil prowls in to take it away.

2. Rocky area: Represents those who hear the word with gladness, yet fail to stay faithful to God when hardships come.

3. Seeds among thorns: Anyone who receives the word but worldly pleasures and wealth; coupled with worries pollute his mind to become unfruitful.

4. Seeds on good ground : Here is the one who hears the word, understands it, and becomes fruitful multiple times.

Now, make a genuine assessment of yourself and answer this question. Which of these 4 groups of people do you belong to?

2. Testimonies

Anyone who hears about a believer’s experience with Christ Jesus would be touched to have faith in him. Through our testimonies, the world gets to understand why we pray and worship God all the time.

If the Lord does anything for you, let others know about it. That step alone will increase the faith of other believers and bring in more people to Christ. The man who got healed from legions of demons in the book of Mark chapter 5 gives us a clear example.

Many Christians have experienced miracles that are beyond scientific explanation. Some testimonies are jaw-dropping.

Having your prayers answered and sharing them with others would help them increase in faith. This is why we say faith comes by hearing. Yes, by hearing the gospel and the mighty works of God.

“He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son” (1 John 5:10).

3. Reading

God encourages us to read the Bible as often as we can. It should be a daily habit. By reading the gospel to yourself; you would feel a sense of hope that would bring you closer to God.

Reading the Bible to increase in faith

Imagine staying faithful to your Morning Devotions — that constant supply of energy will boost your faith.

The Holy Spirit will fill and strengthen you to keep on trusting in God even if your faith is challenged by painful situations.

But don’t end there by being selfish:

“What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs” (Mark 10:27).

Someone somewhere needs this life breathing word to be blessed and saved. Their faith will increase through your effort in sharing what you have learned.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

4. Songs And Praises

If you ever find yourself in a tough situation that makes you feel all hope is gone; stay calm and appease your weary soul by listening to inspirational songs filled with Bible passages.

You would feel a great sense of relief if you would relate to that very Christian inspiring song. I have already made a collection of such heart warning songs. Find them in this article.

Singing praises unto the Lord

Songs and praises alone can invoke the Holy Spirit to touch you in so many ways. He ever ready to help and strengthen us when we are in deep troubles.

5. Movies

Just like how Christian songs can increase your faith by listening to them; so as Christian movies will deliver the message of hope to you. Watch them with the family, friends, and loved ones and learn valuable lessons that would draw you closer to God than ever before.

If you are thinking about the kind of movies to inspire you to maintain your faith in Christ Jesus, I have a few recommendations in this post about Christian movies.

A New Gospel In Town — Let Them Hear

Many who haven’t heard about the word of God must hear about it. Christian should know how faith comes by hearing — so let’s send the gospel to the doorsteps of every creature.

Faith comes by hearing the word of God

Apostle Paul got troubled in spirit when he visited Athens. Why? Because he could see idols all over.

Paul confidently preached the gospel and there were mixed reactions…:

“Some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers also were conversing with him. Some said, “What does this babbler want to say?” Others said, “He seems to be advocating foreign deities,” because he preached Jesus and the resurrection” (Acts 17:18).

Interestingly the people of Athens and their rulers were curious about this new gospel Apostle Paul was preaching about:

“For you bring certain strange things to our ears. We want to know therefore what these things mean” (Acts 17:20).

Some believed the gospel, others mocked Paul for preaching about the resurrection of the dead. Those who accepted the word increased in faith and became Children of God.

Today, it is the same word I am sharing with you. You have heard it. Why wouldn’t you believe it? Do you have valid reasons? There is empirical evidence that authenticates the word of God.

The dreadful day of the Lord is fast approaching. God delights in seeing you being saved. You have heard the word; repent and believe in Christ Jesus.

Paul continued by saying:

“The times of ignorance, therefore, God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent, because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to everyone by raising Him from the dead” (Acts 17:30 – 31).

Faith Comes By Hearing – Pleasing God With Faith

Once again, I’m placing importance on being knowledgeable about God. Your ears have heard the Good News and now you must have faith before you can please Him.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).

Never give up on God because your prayers are going unanswered or because you are going through too many problems. This is the best time to demonstrate your faith.

You have already been given the power to overcome the Devil and any kind of affliction. Long-suffering, patience, self-control are all part of every Christian’s journey.

But in faith, we believe we have overcome those challenges because the Lord’s eye is always on his Children.

The one who hears and believes would grow in faith. He would therefore enjoy glorious benefits:

1. You would be called a child of God.
2. You can resist/rebuke the Devil.
3. Your salvation comes by God’s grace.
4. You would never fear or be afraid when you walk through darkness.
5. Faith would help you trust God unconditionally.
6. God’s blessings will abound.

There are many ways you can demonstrate your faith as a Christian. And if you think you need more enlightenment about faith, read these Bible verses.

I am hopeful this post has rekindled your faith in God through Christ Jesus. With him in the vessel, there is no need to be fearful of the stormy sea. Be still and know that he is God! Stay blessed!
