How is life treating you?. Good? Bad? or what?. You could be the happiest person or the richest man in the world today: yet you can’t disapprove the simple fact that life is meaningless.
Time to abreast yourself with what makes life meaningless. Life is beautiful. Take a look at the lovely scenes in nature. Not forgetting the cultures, lifestyles, talents friendships, celebrations and relationships we enjoy. Yet a critical look into all these beautiful moments traps our conscious mind in paradox. All the enjoyments prove futile in the end.
A couple of months ago I talked about one thing most of us find questionable for various reasons. It is about the meaning of life?. Considering all the relevant ideas that differ from each other it makes it a necessity to find out what makes life meaningless.
To know what makes life meaningless is just one major point out of our entire existence on this planet. The question will always keep on rolling; why am I here on earth? why too much suffering?. Do You Believe Life Is Hard? life is sweet and so on and so forth. The difference exists between individual experiences. But there is a saying that the end justifies the means.
“The ceaseless labor of your life is to build the house of death.” — Michel De Montaigne
In all, we share the same fate which is DEATH. For every single person, to better understand why life is meaningless there is one person we can learn from. I am talking about the richest man to live on earth King Solomon
” I searched in my heart how to cheer my flesh with wine, my heart yet guiding me with wisdom, and how to lay hold of folly, until I might see what it was good for the sons of men that they should do under heaven all the days of their lives” (Ecclesiastics 2:3).
He concluded all his experiences on earth by saying life is useless. In the next paragraphs, we will find out why the wisest man ever said that.
I believe some of you out there will quibble. You might be enjoying life because you have a lot of money, cars, women, business, etc. You seem to know nothing about shame, fear, sorrows, and pains. This might make you cherish life and even wish for immortality. This is what raises the red flag.
There is none who has celebrated life more than King Solomon. Women, slaves, servants, gold, beautiful gardens, mansions etc. He, therefore, threw a challenge, — has anyone enjoyed life more than him???:
“For who can eat, or who can have enjoyment, more than I?” ( Ecclesiastics 2:25)
Everything that has a beginning has an end. Beauty fades, strength and energy fade. Your wealth might not decrease in value but one day someone will enjoy your hard-earned income and wealth. Is this not meaningless?.
What Makes Life Meaningless?
To understand what makes life meaningless; the Bible has the real answer for every one of us. Whether you believe or not— wisdom has spoken and there is nothing to argue about it. Why do we stress ourselves so much?. The stupidest thing is to try to impress people who don’t even need your attention.
The love of money is what is driving us into a state of enviness, hatred, conspiracies, unnecessary competitions, injustice, and all the destructions you could think of. It is sad to find out that some people make their monies, wealth, and happiness out of other’s miseries.
The one who genuinely works hard to enjoy the fruits of his labor will eventually fade out just like anyone else. Our happiness and possessions on earth are only temporal. The king lamented by saying;
“Then I said in my heart, “As it happens to the fool, so will it happen even to me; and why was I then wiser?” Then I said in my heart that this also is vanity.
For of the wise man, even as of the fool, there is no memory forever, since in the days to come all will have been long forgotten. Indeed, the wise man must die just like the fool!
So I hated life because the work that is worked under the sun was grievous to me; for all is vanity and a chasing after the wind.
I hated all my labor in which I labored under the sun because I must leave it to the man who comes after me” (Ecclesiastics 2:15-18)
You Are Not Always Better Than Animals
For you to keep on asking what is the meaning of life; don’t wait for death to teach you lessons about humility before you humble yourself.
Arrogance is a disease. Forget about your fame, beauty, money, and wealth. Bear in mind that the rich, the poor, the fool, and animals share the same fate which is death. Is this not meaningless?.
“For that which happens to the sons of men happens to animals. Even one thing happens to them. As one dies, so the other dies. Yes, they have all one breath; and man has no advantage over the animals; for all is vanity. All go to one place. All are from the dust, and all turn to dust again”(Ecclesiastics 3:20).
To finalize it all, life is a whole complex thing. God does not exempt anyone from having fun or enjoying the labor of his work.
Think about it, one day you will live everything behind. Animals, the rich, poor and the fool are all bond to the same fate called death. To make life meaningful here on earth and in the afterlife —fear God and obey his commandments.
