Many Christians living today could barely understand why the Bible says God is not slow in keeping His promises: Yet their breakthroughs are taking years; prayers go unanswered plus so many challenges.
God isn’t showing up as expected. In view of our high expectations of His immediate intervention — many have lost their faith. Is anyone out there trying to question God’s plans? The Bible has made us aware that God is not slow in keeping His promises. How do you understand this?
Take a look at the verse being the main point in this content below before I go any further:
“The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)
Yes, Peter was giving us prophetic messages about the coming of the Messiah, the redemption of the children of God, and the destruction of unrepentant sinners. In a broader perspective, we are entreated not to be anxious about anything but fully trust God —irrespective of the circumstances we find ourselves in.
Understanding God’s Supposed Slowness
Bear in mind that, no matter how you urgently need God’s help, you can’t force him to tailor his plans according to your needs. This might be a disappointing moment on your side. But if you truly believe in God, then you ought to know that nothing is too late and nothing is impossible for him.
A thousand years is just a day for Him and a day is a thousand years for Him. How can we possibly understand all His ways or thoughts? They are always higher and bigger than ours: just like how heaven is higher and bigger than this earth.
After all, our greatest gift from him is eternal life. All other good things come to us according to his grace and riches. God is not slow in executing his plan. How do you even understand slowness in the sight of the Creator of heaven and earth?
I do understand that kind of feeling when you need divine intervention in your life challenges but the Lord still keeps silent. This makes people wonder why he could stay silent and watch us face troubles while the sinner keeps on doing evil and taking advantage Of innocent people.
Remember what the Psalmist said in Psalms 121: 4: The Lord never sleeps nor slumber. Our problem is about how we fail to trust him unconditionally.
Meaning Of God Is Not Slow In His Promises
You go through the scriptures and you realize that, God has promised to help you in so many ways, and in His Holiness, He can not lie.
Let me first help you to understand that God does not view time from human standards. So if you look at your clock, count the number of months and years and conclude that God has kept long in fulfilling his beautiful promises, then you are wrong.
“The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)
Just like how the entire chapter of 2 Peter 3 exposes the human thoughts or misconception about God’s timing —so as we must learn how to wait without any doubt.
If mankind ever thinks God is delaying his promise of coming to render his righteous judgment —then it is because of God giving much time to everyone to repent before the dreadful day appears.
The Bible says Christ’s return will be like a thief in the night. God is love and kind. We can exhaust the patience of man but trying to exhaust God’s patience would be a terrible thing. Without such patience, sinners could never be saved. His vessel of wrath would have been broken a long time.
He wants many people (if not all) to repent before it is too late. This is one major reason we say that God is not slow in keeping his promises. Christians living today are therefore reminded to live in constant readiness for the return of the Messiah. And be grateful for even the little things they have in life.
A Lesson From Revelation Proves God Is Never Slow
According to Revelation, we can also learn about the reasons why the Bible says God is not slow as the human mind perceives:
“When he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of people k who had been killed for the Word of God, and for the testimony l which they had. They called out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, Master, the holy and true, until you judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” A long white robe was given to each of them. They were told that they should rest yet for a little longer, until their fellow servants and their brothers, who would also be killed even as they were, should complete their course.” (Revelation 6:9 – 11)
This whole period of wait is for sinners to repent. Such a loving Father who has no interest in the destruction of sinners.
He wants our brothers and sisters who are murderers, fornicators, thieves, liars, sorcerers, idol worshippers, etc, to drop their evil weapons and come to Christ. He desires to save everyone (1 Timothy 2:4)
The Christian’s Plight About Life Struggles
Waiting on God has never been an easy thing. Because it takes a whole lot of preparedness to receive God’s promises which according to the human standard is said to be untimely or too late.
We could hardly understand why God has promised to answer our prayers when we are in need, give us a beautiful future and every good thing; yet the answers are not coming. How long oh Lord?
The story of Joseph, David, Abraham, and Sarah teach Christians how God’s time is the best. He promised the Israelites a land that flows with milk and honey. And it took them 40 years in the wilderness before reaching the promised land.
No one can determine the right time for God. Just don’t be anxious for our God is not slow as people think. Job in all his afflictions never hastened to blame God or argue with Him.
Prophetic messages about your life, marriage, job, health, etc may come through your Pastor, Prophet or Church leaders. But would you have enough patience if God seems to be slow?
Though we do not see through the future, we believe God will surely provide for his children. He loves us. May we understand his ways and conform to them without fear or doubt.
