The Truth About Why Homosexuality Is Illegal In Africa

Africa is still being pressured by some western elites to accept homosexuality. This is out of normal human interaction for two major reasons. We shall always condemn it. The world must understand why homosexuality is illegal in Africa. True Christians would always frown on such acts.

I believe it is time all Christians voice out against the pressure these European elites are giving our leaders to accept homosexuality. This post wouldn’t be something good for any LGBT+ but it is worth reading to understand where I am coming from.

The quick fact is; Those who can put God aside for carnal lives would see nothing wrong with homosexuality. Unfortunately, the wind of LGBTQ+ is blowing strongly in many churches causing divisions among members.

On the other hand, those of us who fear the Lord will always avoid broad daylight sinful acts like homosexuality/lesbianism or any form of sexual perversion that ignite the wrath of God.

Why Wrongful Sexual Desires?

Philosopher Michael Levin explained why Homosexuality is abnormal under his article “Homosexuality, Abnormality, and Civil Rights” (1996).

“Thus HS is abnormal because sexual desire (or sex organs) were not selected for HS desire/use. Similarly, necrophilia is a perversion as it deflects the sex drive from the type of targets that resulted in the sex drive being selected for.”

It’s been a long and persistent endeavor by Western Elites to impose gay rights legalization on Africans, particularly people in Western, Central, and Eastern Africa.

Despite all the pressure on some African leaders to legalize gay rights, they have not given in to such a proposal for various reasons.

This is getting worse in terms of sexual perversions. People who feel attracted to same-sex want us to see it as something normal.

In view of this, a number of countries have legalized it. A few years ago before Obama’s administration in the US, homosexuality was not legal. The same applies to other European counties.

  • In 1996, the US Government passed the Defense of Marriage Act, where marriage was explicitly defined as a union of one man and one woman for the purposes of federal law.

Now things are on the opposite way and they want Africans to follow the same path.

If today, people whose sexual preference with the same-sex have been legalized then some years to come people who prefer having sex with animals (bestialism) would also be legalized.

Morality is decaying in our various societies. They no longer consider sex as a sacred thing made for husband and wife.

And here we see people marrying robots and having sex with them. Where is the fear of God? Look, our world is evolving into something horrible.

They Hate And Never Want To Understand Why Homosexuality Is Illegal In Africa

The truth hurts but it sets us free. Let us consider some of the attempts these European elites have made to bring homosexuality into our motherland.

African counties such as Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Somalia Ghana, Uganda, and others have been in constant opposition to gay rights and that is a plausible idea.

There are 54 countries in Africa. Homosexuality is illegal in about 37 African countries.  There is much pressure on the African governments to criminalize and intensify the punishment for those who practice gay or support any kind of LGBTQ activities.

The respective Presidents have voiced out their stance against homosexuality. Africa needs leaders who can boldly defend the interest and beliefs of their citizens.

Tell the LGBTQ+ advocates that we shall constantly reject homosexuality even if you make it a condition to grant us a loan or buy our natural resources.

Take a look at what some of these supporters of homosexuality have said against an African country like Ghana.

“We’ll help Ghana, others to remove anti-gay laws” – UK government.

It Doesn’t Make Sense In Our Various Societies

There has been one major outspoken African leader to rubbish every effort these elites make. I have been his number one fan on that. He is Zimbabwean ex-president, Robert Mugabe:

Archbishop Tutu said it is nice to be gay, yet he has a wife, he should have begun by getting himself a man for a woman… When you are a bishop and cannot interpret the Bible, you should resign and give it to those who can. We will not compromise our tradition and tolerate homosexuality. We need continuity in our race, and that comes from the woman, and no to homosexuality. John and John, no; Maria and Maria, no…I keep pigs and the male pig knows the female one.” – ZDC radio interview, 2015.

Its been a major concern for some of us Christians to show our disregard for such proposals from these European elites. I see two major things that account for the denial of gay rights in Africa:

Major Reasons Why Homosexuality Is Illegal In Africa

Now, let me give you some reasons why homosexuality is illegal in Africa. Before I talk about them. Let me chip in this:

1. The Voice Of The People

Many Africans are disgusted by LGBTQ+ activities. The voice of these indigenous people of the land proves that —they don’t want homosexuality to be legalized. There have been persistent protests against gay activities.

The law in Senegal for instance calls LGBTQ+ activities in article 319:3 of the Senegalese constitution an “act against nature.” This offense is punishable by law with some fines.

Ghana has a proposed bill in parliament waiting for approval to criminalize homosexuality. Offenders will face up to at least 10 years imprisonment.

In certain parts of Africa, if you are caught practicing homosexuality —you might find yourself in very big trouble; beatings, or lynched.

If you are sent to the police, then you will be imprisoned. That will even be your lucky day —you will end up taking deep breaths for not receiving instant justice from the mob. At least that will teach you some lessons…

2. African Culture And Tradition

Traditionally, Africans have a diverse culture that includes specific marriage rites and practices for a HUSBAND and WIFE. Africans value their rich culture and heritage thus wouldn’t trade it for cheap tricks and treats from any international body or another country.

In Senegal, a group known in the Wolof language as And Samm Jikko Yi (Together we protect our values) organized a rally last year (2021) to force the government to extend the 5 years imprisonment punishment to 10 years.

I know some folks with their knowledge in books will try to dive into African history and claim there were homosexual activities on some occasions. Whatever these book-long people will try to justify such kind of ungodly act —homosexuality has not been something normal on African soil.

A few African countries have legalized it. But it remains a choice for every individual. The white elites push their policies through the African governments. And, unfortunately, many Africans are already copying the western lifestyle.

3. Religion

Africans are very religious, either Traditionalists, Muslims, or Christians abhor homosexuality. On part of Christians, it is one of the awful sins a man could ever commit against God.

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9 – 10)

Involvement in LGBT+ activities shows an enmity against God. The Bible makes it clear that our bodies are the (Temple) dwelling place of God. And if you destroy this temple —He will also destroy you.

There is a spiritual connection involved in such kind of sexual perversion. Evil forces like spirit of lust play major roles in making people do what is abominable unto God. Some have been delivered through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ Jesus and are living testimonies.

These are the two major reasons behind Africa’s stand against homosexuality.

It’s a different story for South Africa now as they happen to be the first African country to legalize homosexuality.

However, Christians must pray hard for other African countries fighting against homosexuality to be firm in their stand against such an act.

Before, I go further and share something interesting from the bible with you, bear in mind that homosexuality is illegal in more than 70 countries today. And there is an appropriate punishment for any culprit found.

What Does The Bible Teach Us About The Dangers Of Homosexuality?

In the first place, anyone who claims to be a Christian and supports gay rights is not a good Christian. He is lukewarm, God will spit him out. We must also remind ourselves that, there is nothing new under the sun. God once punished the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah for sexual perversions like what we see today in our world.

It shouldn’t surprise you that most of these European elites trying to influence Africa to embrace gay rights are atheists. They have no fear of the Lord.

They are scoffers of the Bible and so wouldn’t believe anything. They will scornfully ask, did the incidence of fire devouring inhabitants in Sodom and Gomorrah really happen?.

Of course Yes!, because the Bible is not a fairy tale. It gives accounts of God’s interaction with mankind since the beginning of this world.

The Bible gave the exact location of the cities of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which were burned down in the days of Abraham. This place is supposed to be near the Dead Sea in Israel today.

A Lesson From Sodom And Gomorrah

How did God punish the people of Sodom and Gomorrah when they gave in to unhealthy sexual desires?. God sent angels to help Lot and his wife run away from the impending destruction but during their departure, Lot’s wife disobeyed God’s word which forbids her to look back. She had an instant punishment by turning her into a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26).

Lot's wife turns into salt at Sodom and Gomorrah
Pillar of salt believed to be Lot’s wife. However, there have been some arguments that Lot’s wife turning into a pillar of salt can’t survive for over a thousand years today.

“Then the LORD rained down sulfur and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah. It was sent down from the sky by the LORD”(Genesis 19:24).

“As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities thereof, saith the LORD, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it.”(Jeremiah 49:18).In verse 50:40 it states;

“that they shall be covered with briers and brambles, a land of salt and sulfur, where can be neither planting nor sowing.”

These said areas are still in existence, covered with small white balls which turned out to be nearly 100% pure sulfur. The truth is, it is the only place on earth with the highest level of pure sulfur.

The word of God is true and so we must fear him. He would never let sin go unpunished. So there are good reasons why homosexuality is illegal in Africa. True Christians wouldn’t partake in such ungodly acts.

“But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men”(2 Peter 3:7).

It is time these European elites understand why homosexuality is illegal in Africa.

We never want to face the same fate as the perverse people in Sodom and Gomorrah. The Lord is coming to render his judgment soon. Who can withstand his fierce anger?

  1. i am in total agreement with this gent. What he is saying strikes at the heart of Christians. I did not know that Africans condemned Homosexuality, but good for them. There are enough people dying from hunger or poor diet, from thirst with lack of water, Famine or through civil wars ,between tribes and countries, people killing each other for no other reason than they enjoy it, the Governments are so corrupt that when they receive Humanitarian aid, it goes into their back pocket ,what is left over goes to the poor, he is right when he says that the people pushing for the L.G.B.T. Equality , are predominantly Atheists or L + G . They do not feel easy about these perversions ,not doing it in private ,wanting the world and governments to say it is alright to do so, making them feel a little bit normal, I agree when the writer said, what will be next , “legalise sex activity with animals”, beasteality, ” paedophilia,,
When God left man alone to live by his own rules, he knew it would be a disaster, it cannot be done, man cannot live without rules, order + habit in life. .In other words man cannot control himself, he is selfish

    1. Hello Leslie Fletcher,

Good to hear you agree with most of the points stated in this controversial topic about homosexuality in Africa. It’s also true when you cited how corrupt most African governments are…

  2. Well this is some low minded rubbish that simply puts into view how obsolete and disgusting African beliefs have rotted. Embrace love, let those who love do so in peace. Any sort of lynching or abuse of another individual for practicing a love you don’t agree with is sick and shows why people don’t want to be anywhere near your feces smelling country. Enjoy your blood and famine while we embrace the right to love and be loved despite what a man made book says.

  3. All these points are wrong as to the major reasons why homosexuality is illegal. There’s nothing like African culture. There are over 2000 cultures on the continent. It’s not a monolith. Further, the major reasons are colonisation and colonial laws. Where the Arabs took over, they tried to curb homosexuality, but when the White Europeans landed on the continent, their version of colonialism achieved grand scale homophobia very fast and effectively. When they landed on the continent, the European colonialists started crafting and imposing laws that reflected the laws of their countries, but were much harsher for Africans because most colonialists viewed Africans as heathens, soulless humanoids closer to animals than the civilised full human. Other laws that they introduced were multiple taxes like hut tax, tolls and levies, identification cards, and mandatory surnames. They also demonised and outlawed African cultures including pre-colonial religions, traditions and contemporary customs, styling in the form of clothing, hair, accessories and body artwork like body paint. They also destroyed work cultures and socialisation cultures. They forced abolishment or replacement of African cultures with the colonial cultures that were a few aspects short of the European colonial cultures. Homosexuality has been in the continent for eons, and will continue to be, even after the colonial projects presently called African states collapse, break up, and other states establish themselves in their wake.

    1. Hi mejaz, your contribution is highly welcomed. However, if you can’t find any of the points as major reasons but otherwise that’s fine. It’s not up for debate. The majority of Africans still abhor homosexuality for various reasons. Thanks for your contribution.
