Saying an intercessory prayer for someone

Whether you believe in prayers or not —it doesn’t dispute the fact that God hears everything we say, think about, or conceive in our hearts. He is an omniscient and omnipotent God. Christians have been empowered and commanded to use prayers as weapons against the devil, his agents and all life struggles. Unfortunately, many Christians do not know how to pray for themselves; How much more can they pray for someone? I believe it’s time every follower of Christ Jesus develops a consistent and effective habit of prayer life.

We do have a lot of people we love and care about. Love drives us to help others, become compassionate and share with the people we come into contact with by any means. God wants us to be loving, kind and humble in our relationship with everyone —irrespective of the difference. Do you even remember Jesus commanding all believers to pray for their enemies? Love knows no boundaries.

Since you are searching for how to pray for someone, then surely your enemies too will have their share. This is practically hard but it pleases God for us to do.

Today, I will take you through some of the simple ways you can use to pray for someone. That person could be your mother, father, spouse, child, friend, enemy or even a stranger.

Your Divine Duty To Pray For Others

Remember that, it is one of your divine duties to pray for others who need help. There are too many troubles in this world. People need your help through prayers. Your love and decision to pray for someone is a praiseworthy idea. You automatically become an intercessor for others’ welfare or happiness.

The Bible says there are more blessings in giving than receiving. At least dedicate some minutes to pray for the people in your life.

Intercessory prayer has proved to work in the lives of many Christians. In the Bible, it worked for believers who intervened for their brethren. Before I explain this in detail —let me introduce to you how heaven responds to our intercessory prayers.

I recently read a book about how Christians can transfer their praying powers to solve others’ problems. The book is entitled “Prayer Banks” by Uebert Angel.

In the chapter concerning “Prayer Bank Transfers,” the writer stated how possible it is for you to use your praying power to intercede for others. I don’t think you would always be praying for yourself at all times. This doesn’t show love. To show love is to share the pains, sorrows and joys of thy brethren.

Sometimes, material goods are useless when you want to be a help in the situation of someone. Imagine seeing your friend, brother, spouse, etc, sick on a hospital bed. This said person needs healing or recovery from his sickness. You can intervene by asking God to heal him or her.

“So confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness.” (James 5:16)

Many have testified about how their prayers have worked in the lives of others. God listens to us when we call on him in times of need.

How To Prepare To Pray For Others

It is very true, God doesn’t answer every prayer. Meanwhile, he has commanded us to pray and He will answer us. No one can question God why He sometimes stays silent when we needed Him most. He knows what is best so we keep on trusting Him —because His timing is the best.

Now, before you think of praying for someone; there are a few things you must do.

1. Be a person of prayer. If you barely know how to pray for yourself —how can you pray for others. It is imperative to know how to pray. That is why Jesus taught his disciples how to pray (The Lord’s Prayer – Luke 11) and instructed them to pray at all times.

2. Know the needs of the person you want to pray for. There should be a reason why someone needs your prayers. This will help you to say the right prayer for the person because there are so many different types of prayers. Eg. Prayer for healing, against evil forces, marital problems, strength, financial breakthrough, children, etc,

On the other hand, sometimes you can just cover others with your prayers without being specific about their needs. God can still move in to fix whatever is broken or lost in the person’s life. I suggest asking God to provide the heart desires of the one you are praying for if that desire only meets His will.

The Psalmist said:

“May he grant your heart’s desire; may he bring all your plans to pass! Then we will shout for joy over your victory; we will rejoice in the name of our God! May the LORD grant all your requests!” (Psalms 20:4 – 5)

3. Let the person know that you are praying for him. Letting the person acknowledge that you are interceding for him will give him enough hope and encouragement to cope with whatever problem is at stake. In cases where you can’t get the attention of the one you want to pray for – just go ahead and pray and the Lord will do His miraculous work.

Make the following preparation and the Lord will step in to deliver the people you have been praying for from whatever is worrying them in life. You see, God loves to hear the prayer of the righteous…

How To Say Prayers For Someone

Now is the time to learn about how you can pray for someone with effective results. I believe you have prepared yourself to bring others into the saving hands of our Lord Jesus Christ. Go ahead and say intercessory prayers for those you love and care about.

But before that, I remember I left you with an unfinished job somewhere within the first paragraphs of this article. Here I continue… Yes! I was talking about how the early followers of God or Christians intervened for their brethren. They have led exemplary lives for us to follow.

Let’s look at Peter’s deliverance from prison. The church offered prayers for Peter to be saved and protected by the mighty hands of the Lord. The whole story is recorded in Acts 12.

“So Peter was kept in prison, but those in the church were earnestly praying to God for him.” (Acts 12:5)

It worked out to the surprise of the believers when Peter came back knocking on the door. Their prayers have been answered!

If someone you know or care about is in trouble —you can pray for him. It is part of you your divine responsibility. Follow the following steps when praying for someone:

Find A Quite Place For Prayers

If you are alone or together with other believers, find a place void of distraction and pour out your heart on the Lord for someone’s healing, revival, protection, etc,

It is also possible to call the person on phone from wherever gou are and speak the Word the saves to him.

Ask The Holy Spirit To Take The Lead

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to comfort us, strengthen and even intercede for us when we even don’t know what to say in prayers.

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how we should pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings.” (Romans 8:26)

Allow the Holy Spirit to fill you, strengthen you and bring into memory everything you ought to say during prayers.

Have Faith

Faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation every Christian needs to move mountains. If you are praying for a friend and you have no faith —then it’s better you go home and sleep. Through faith, God moves to do the unimaginable —so believe that Jesus will answer you by touching the one you are praying for.

“Jesus answered them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.” (Mathew 21:21)

Jesus’ message about faith sounds very encouraging. So have faith, even if it’s small as a mustard seed, you will be a good intercessor for others.

• Use Relevant Bible Verses, Events, Or Messages In Your Prayers

It would help a lot to open your Bible and use Bible messages where the prayer of intercession worked and call in God to have mercy on your loved ones. For instance, you can read from Acts 12 and tell God that you believe He is the same God who never changes. Ask Him to touch someone you have in your heart.

Remember, that on several occasions, Moses interceded for the people of Israel through prayers. He even interceded for Aron who was a high priest.

“The LORD was also angry enough at Aaron to kill him, but at that time I prayed for him too.” (Deuteronomy 9:20)

If the Bible has these trustworthy records, then it means through your prayers someone might be saved, forgiven, healed, blessed, protected, etc,

You can extend your intercessory prayer to cover your country and the entire world for God’s peace, love, kindness and glory to be seen and magnified by everything that has breath.
