Have you noticed this as human? There are distractions in almost everything we do. However, when you focus on the good, things eventually become better. It’s a progressive movement in life that takes a lot of discipline.
Life offers us infinite choices… It’s a matter of choice. Even in dilemma, you still have to make a choice. What do you want in life? I don’t need you to tell me your dreams; just go for it. But before you make up your mind to chase anything —be certain it is worth and more importantly pleasing to God. Have you ever heard this saying: “When you focus on the good the good gets better?” Perhaps you have, or simply understand the message at a glance.
There are dark sides to the life story of everyone. The awful experience has the power to hold you back if you keep on thinking about it. Believe that there are better days ahead.
As you find yourself reading this piece of content, I will share with you why it is important to focus on the good and how to make it look better.
What is good?
This is a compound answer that will trigger many different answers depending on the person’s beliefs, dreams, emotions, or hopes.
Yes, of course, there are many good things out there and no sane person will hate what is good, except the devil and his agents. Hey! but not all that glitters is gold. Watch out! You would need a jeweler’s eye to spot out the real gold.
Here, I want you to acknowledge the fact that nothing feels good than God, so focus on God. It’s like slamming the guy who is anxious about what to wear, eat, sleep, etc, with this Bible verse:
“But seek first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:33 – 34).
God holds the treasure of goodness. The Psalmist said, “Goodness and mercy shall follow me — all the days of my life.”
Bear in mind that the devil can pretend to be good and a giver of good things. As cunning as he is, he has succeeded in plunging people into many problems. Why? Because they searched for good things from the wrong guy. I mean that old serpent called Lucifer is luring people with worldly pleasures.
Psychology Of The Game
The truth is, we all have needs; we all have challenges that silently question our worth and purposes on this planet.
It feels pretty simple to set a goal. But to make it realistic and hit your target or the finish line, you have to run a marathon with a heavy load on your head. This isn’t a joke.
To focus on the good, psychology teaches us about the law of attraction and how important it is to avoid self-sabotage.
Basically, there are two different energies or emotions you have to deal with. One is light, good, pleasing, and inspiring, (positive); the other is dark, heartbreaking, bad, and unpleasant (negative).
Which one would you even focus on? Surely you need to look at the brighter side and turn your back on the darkness.
This situation is best dealt with by the mind. Cognitive biases will surely set in while you have a wonderful plan of executing your lofty goals in life.
If you allow fear or make a mental projection of what might go wrong to take control; you will end up opening doors for failure, pains, and suffering.
The moment you fail to focus on the reward in await of your sacrifices or endeavors as a student, entrepreneur, parent, youth, etc, you become crippled with fear of failure or doubt.
That contradictory energy would make you feel inadequate, useless, fearful, and uninspired to accomplish anything good.
The simple reason is that you are standing on your way to happiness, success, and satisfaction in any topic of interest or field of work.
Things will turn around if you focus on the good —then it will eventually become better.
You would also need to exercise patience. Because building a successful future doesn’t happen overnight.
Decision To Focus On The Good For Better Results
No rational being would invite calamity or anything bad for himself, then there must be constructive steps to eliminate dream killers or anything that hinder genuine success or happiness.
John Lennon once said:
“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” —John Lennon
That is a great quote by all standards. However, no one can be happy all the time. Bad days will surely crop up… Interestingly, Helen Keller summarized it for us in this way:
“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.”- Helen Keller
In a nutshell, happiness is a matter of choice. Even if you are going through difficulties, you can choose to smile, be hopeful, happy, and optimistic about the future. So go ahead and focus on the good and make it better.
Don’t allow the pains, sufferings, and misfortunes to bog you down. Find the goodness in every situation that comes your way and use that as inspiration to carry out your goals. Yes, when the enemy throws stones at you — use them as building blocks to build your mansion.
There is a poem most of us learned in elementary school. It is entitled “Good better best.” This highlight the human need for progress in life or any aspect of it
How To Focus On The Good And Make It Better
Now it is time I let you know that when you focus on the good, the good gets better. You can do that without stressing out yourself.
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
— Dr. Reinhold Niebuhr
Below are some of the ways to focus on the good.
1. Develop a positive mentality towards every situation.
2. Dire to look at the brighter side of your pains or suffering. Sometimes you might need a magnifier to see the good in the bad —what is better or best in the good.
3. Avoid negative people whom I prefer to call negaholics.
4. Learn to transform any negative energy into something positive. Science says, energy is not destroyed but transformed. Eg. Turn anger into the workforce. The adrenaline…
5. Believe in the goals you have set and work assiduously toward them. Set your mind on the possibility.
6. Lastly, the most important thing but at the bottom here is the “God factor.” He must come first in everything you do. God is good —He gives good things and favors those who seek Him wholeheartedly. God loves all His children.
In Summation
Anytime you focus on the good things, you take yourself through the state of happiness, success, joy, or satisfaction.
We are humans and are meant to grow spiritually, mentally, and physically. That is from good, better to best. Or from grass to grace.
In other words from bad to a better position. Make a decision today to stay optimistic about the future. The ups and downs happen to teach you valuable lessons. But when you focus on the good, good things truly get better.
