Have you thought about why it is imperative to spend time with God? Check your priority list. You might be busy in life with the wrong things.

How to spend time with God

Time has always been precious in our lives. It is one of the most important things common to every human; 24hrs a day. But how do Christians today manage to spend time with God?

Many activities are keeping us busy but unproductive as Children of the Most High God. Do you have a daily plan of getting closer to God? Check your priority list; where have you placed God? Does He come first?

In this article, I will take you around by pinpointing some Biblical facts about how to spend time with God and more time in doing things that pleases Him. Besides, I will highlight the challenges and how to overcome them.

Unfortunately, many Christians are not seeing the glory of God in their lives because they seek Him ONLY when the condition is unfavorable.

Let me share with you how to spend time with God and enjoy His amazing blessings. Oh Yes! you would be drenched in His grace and blessings by spending time with God.

Let me begin with this awesome verse from the Book of Isaiah:

“Seek the LORD while He makes himself available; call to Him while He is nearby!” (Isaiah 55:6)

In one of my articles, I talked about why it is important to have a Quiet Time with God; And this seems to be an extension.

The Time Factor

This chaotic world will present to you a lot of crazy things that will keep you off your devotion to God.

By understanding how precious time is; you would also understand that tomorrow is not guaranteed.

It’s a pity, many Christians create time to have fun or wild parties, work for long hours, socialize, etc without a minute of prayer or recognition of God’s Providence.

The average life span is said to be around 70 to 80 years. Sleeping alone takes about 26 years. Then we voluntarily spend more than 11 years looking at screens. The list goes on and on to steal our attention from God.

The Amish people are right by having great control over technology. They don’t want to be infiltrated by the world’s pervasive lifestyles. They don’t fancy that.

Besides, I recently met a Christian friend who happens to be a Mennonite. I learned that they also don’t fancy technology. And yeah that’s a praiseworthy idea… to have more time for God.

Why should we sink deep into a fallen man’s world which is controlled by the Big Tech and other world superpowers?

What would a Christian accomplish by spending countless hours flipping movie channels on Netflix? The most appalling parts; some of that secular music and movies we spend a great amount of time on contain subliminal messages and satanic symbols respectively.

They are working so hard to steal our attention and make us slaves to Satan and sin.

Satan has easily captured the minds of vulnerable Christians through screens. At the end of the day. There would be nothing done for the Spirit of God Who lives in us. It’s a challenging situation every Christian must be reminded of. It’s time we awaken each other from slumber.

There is no more time to be wasted on worldly pleasures. God is calling us. The Devil is working hard in misleading the children of God into eternal damnation. Let’s submit to God!

“So submit to God. But resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

A Call For Change

If you really want to know how to spend time with God, then be prepared to change your time spending habits. Hey, I’m not telling you to cancel your flight plan or shopping plan or whatsoever.

I’m much concerned about your priority list. Once again, let me ask you, is God at #1? Does everything on your list please

Do you see how serious it is to stay closer to God than any human or anything? Remember, that everything is passing away and we are all accountable to Him. As a matter of fact, we will account for everything we do under the sun.

I have been on the newsletter list of Gab (A profound Christian community ). And recently, the CEO being Andrew Torba shared a captivating story of how he creates enough time for himself doing things that brings him more closer to God and be productive in life.

Interestingly, he is managing Gab as a father of two and having leisure time doing some other stuff. He said he built a desk out of some lumber.

24hrs a day seems inadequate for such a guy of his kind to work on some lumber. His fans asked how he managed to do that. And here comes his response:

“The answer is simple. I don’t watch TV. I don’t use Facebook. I don’t follow any sports or celebrity gossip. I don’t watch Hollywood movies. I spend as much time as possible living in the City of God and fleeing from the City of Man.”

The screen thing —taking 11 years from the average man’s life has plunged millions of people into the hands of the Devil.

They are addicted to pornography, others are been exposed to satanic practices. There is no regard for morality and perversion has become the “normal life” for many.

Our kids and youth always want to fit into the so-called normal life. Is no one reaching out to them with the Bible? Is no one spending time with our youth with The Word of God?

I strongly believe if any devout Christian would minimize the huge amount of time spent on screens and start seeking more of God; there would be more blessings and spiritual upliftment.

Our greatest gift as believers is to live with the Lord in His kingdom (Salvation). We, therefore, need to draw closer to Him by being obedient children.

If you can eliminate the crafty devices of the devil, then we can magically increase the hours we spend —doing the things that glorify God.

It’s a pity… After long hours of watching movies at the night, there is left with no interest and energy for prayers. Look at him… Feeling tired, he doses off without saying a prayer. The devil has kept you busy and made you spiritually weak.

Stay awake and pray that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41)

How To Spend Time With God

I not telling you not to have fun. And I’m not putting anyone into a compulsion to quit social media or the use of technology.

It’s true “all work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” But Jack wouldn’t have any spiritual benefits from everything he plays with.

Being selective in the type of music, movies, places and other activities we do are highly important in the lives of Christians. Remember that we are in this world but we don’t belong to it.

I love spending a couple of hours punching on the keyboard to produce great Christian articles.

I love the whole process as it keeps me busy knowing more about God. However, it takes a lot of work and it’s quite difficult at times.

Now let me tell you about how to spend time with God. I will make it brief.

1. More Prayers

This is one of the commonest weapons available for all Christians. You can’t be a true follower of Jesus Christ without prayers. He prayed often and commanded us to pray often so that we don’t fall into the traps of the Devil.

Time spent talking to God in prayers is never wasted. Here comes one of the commands:

“With every prayer and petition, pray at all times in the Spirit, and to this end be alert, with all perseverance and requests for all the saints.” (Ephesians 6:18)

By custom, Daniel used to pray three times a day and the Lord never failed him.

2. Read The Bible

As I write to inspire you to spend time with God, I am also reminding you of the importance of this that leads to spiritual growth.

The Bible is also known as the sword of the Spirit. How often do you use this word?

3. Quite Time

I’ve already made mention of “Quite Time” in this article. You must have time with God alone often. Speak to Him by thanking Him and glorifying Him. Speak to Him and hear Him speak back to you. Spend special time with the Lord alone and any designated place of your choice. That place must be free from any obstruction.

3. Friendship With The Lord

You need to establish a strong relationship with the Lord. If Jesus Christ is your friend, then He will always be with you. Because He is faithful, loving, and kind. A trustworthy friend will never abandon you.

If you call out to Him for help, He will show up. It’s as simple as this; a good friend will always be by your side. He will love you unconditionally.

The moment you become a friend of Jesus, you automatically end up being an enemy to the world. The World will hate you because they don’t like the Light. The world hated Jesus being the Light of the world and so you are no exception.

4. Love Your Neighbor

That dude over there isn’t just a friend or neighbor but carries the image of God. Spending time with God begins by loving your neighbors as you love God. The Bible says if you love God and hates your neighbor, then you are lying.

Spend time with your neighbors by being kind to them. Love them and be willing to talk to them about God and His amazing salvation plan.

In one way or the other, you also take part in the great commission which the Lord will reward you abundantly.

5. Join A Christian Group

There are many different Christian groups or fellowships in our various churches or communities. You can join one and participate in their programs or scheduled events.

Yes! You would be spending time with God by being part of a Christian group like “prayer warriors”, youth, women’s fellowship, etc,

These groups occasionally organize fun games to help socialize fellow believers and release stress.

Here is one thing exceptional about a group prayer:

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them.” (Matthew 8:20)

Our friend, Christ Jesus Himself joins us at that moment. This is very much encouraging to spend quality time with the Lord.
