Making Lemonade from Life’s Lemons

Making Lemonade from Life’s Lemons

Life lesson from lemons

Life can be sour. The sting of a breakup, the stress of work, the biting words of a friend, the pain of unpaid bills, the sorrow of illness…this life has not promised happiness on a silver platter. However, God in his goodness allows us to take the lemons of life and taste something sweet. We do this in two main ways – Bible reading and prayer.

During these times, it is important to remind yourself of the truth. Going to Bible passages about hope, perseverance, and peace can be extremely life-giving. And as much as many of us hope to know the references off the top of our head for those verses, it can be helpful to go to websites that have already compiled these topics. Or we can try to speak with God through a random Bible verse generator. For example on this website – mybibleverses.org

A chapter of Scripture that has continued to encourage believers throughout the centuries is Romans 8. Verses 37-39 of that passage state, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

In the tumult of tribulation, it is default to feel defeated. And yet, this Scripture tells us that we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus. Turning to Scripture in the sour times of life is extremely important because it helps us acknowledge our reality. Though we feel pain and sorrow, we are not defeated. God reveals the end game in Scripture, and testifies of our true standing, and that is as victors.

Feast on the word of God and allow yourself to be encouraged by this truth. God is good, and anything in our lives that shouts otherwise is not meant to do us harm…rather God will make beauty from ashes and even use the most uncomfortable parts of our life to craft something beautiful.

Another great way to “make lemonade” is to stay in prayer. Prayer is not just the way we communicate with God, but also how he communicates with us. During prayer, you can experience feelings of peace or reassurance, and an overall connection to God. Through pouring out our worries, hardships, and struggles we can grow closer to the Lord as he ministers to us through this communication.

Remember, Paul even admits to being “sorrowful yet always rejoicing” in 2 Corinthians 6:10. Sometimes the bitter exists with the sweet, but through it all we can know that the Lord is good and has our good in mind. He has not abandoned us. Through Bible reading and prayer we are able to remind ourselves of this truth and not be overcome by our struggles.
