5 Effective Ways To Stop What People Think About You And Your Life

Knowing how to stop caring about what people think about you indicates maturity in life. Not everyone genuinely wants your success and happiness. So it’s time to make their thoughts worthless.

How to Stop Caring About What People Think

Let me speak my mind: “I think you will be a failure“, and “I think you are stupid this and that.” Oh yeah, these are my thoughts. How do you handle such kinds of negative remarks? Do you believe what I said? These are some of the things the devil whispers in our ears. Stop him! Well, today I want to talk about how to stop caring about what people think about you.

There is no law stopping people from speaking their minds. But it doesn’t mean you should be concerned about everything you hear about yourself. You have to define yourself, set your goals, stick to your beliefs and act wisely.

It’s imperative to know your worth or value on this earth. If not, someone will make you look stupid. As humans, our brains are wired in a way that we pay much attention to negative thoughts than positive thoughts. According to neuroscientists, negative thoughts flow in our brains 4 to 5 times than positive thoughts.

So if you could barely silence that cognitive bias then you would be a big prey for your enemies. You would be their puppets. You would always be their breakfast while you are always left hungry and helpless.

Your thoughts would have a greater influence on your life. In the same way, the kind of remarks you entertain from people would influence your life.

Bible says as a man thinketh so he is. If you believe what the guy next to you said, then it will be part of your life.

You Don’t Know Who You Are?

It’s a pity that many trade their authenticity for praises. I am talking about people pleasers. If you are one, then it is time to stop! Let me expatiate this a little bit. According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, a people pleaser is:

“A person who has an emotional need to please others often at the expense of his or her own needs or desires.”

Yes, this is where most of the problems of those who can’t stop caring about what people think about them boil out. You are wrong if you expect everyone to like you, you are wrong if you think you can make everyone happy.

“To be one’s self, and unafraid whether right or wrong, is more admirable than the easy cowardice of surrender to conformity.'”
-Irving Wallace

Why stress yourself conforming to people’s ideas of what you should do or who you should be? Fear of criticism, rejection, and failure would put you in a state of stagnation. You don’t know your worth and that is a big shame.

Why I Don’t Entertain This Nonsense – I Easily Stop Them

You cannot avoid criticism and you must not be afraid of failing or being criticized. Let me tell you this; I easily stop caring about what people think of me —if I realize it adds no value to my life. I do accept constructive criticism. You know why? Because it is a good recipe for my personal development.

If what Mr. Someone thinks or says about me is worthy, I will gladly incorporate it into my life. The fact is no one is perfect and life is meant to be lived by learning new things from other people and places. This is how we acquire knowledge and life experiences.

Hey! but there must always be precautions about what you entertain. Because not all that glitters is gold. Listen to that little voice inside your head called “conscience.” A genuine thought about you worth considering.

What God Thinks Vs What Men Think

Who knows you better than yourself? And who knows you better than God? Surely, people will tell you about what they think about almost everything you do — especially if you are out there on the street.

There are things you can’t keep out of the public eye. Think about your job, business, dressing, lifestyle, etc. We are social beings and your interaction with the outside world would command some attention.

But the question is “who genuinely cares about your life, success, and happiness?.” Many may give you the most pleasant compliment but that might not be genuine. Others will make you feel like a jerk despite doing your best in whatever you can.

You would end up being thrown into a state of confusion. Here is where other people’s thoughts start to control them. Sadly, that nagging thought did not originate from them; But from friends, co-workers, family, members, colleagues at schools, and even strangers. My friend, who controls your life? If you know how to stop caring about what others think about you — you would easily sieve every thought about you and blow out the negatives into the air like dust.

You are what God says you are but not what man says. You can’t fully trust the thoughts of man. A man’s perception or judgment about you is imperfect. You might be misled into a serious emotional problem.

If you fully rely on God’s guidance, teachings corrections, or disciplinary actions; you would be blissful in everything you do.

If God says “Yes” no man can say “No.” As a proud Christian, I always focus on God’s plans and thoughts about me but not man. His promises are trustworthy.

In Him, I find absolute peace, love, happiness, contentment, and hope for the future. There is no condemnation for the children of God. Let them say, let them slander and scoff at all your endeavors but would not affect you.

As a Christian, I would never put myself on the scale to be judged by the world’s standard. I am a child of God and my heritage comes from the Lord.

What The Media And People Think About Your Appearance

Many are obsessed with their outlooks and how people will find them appealing and accepted. It’s a pity we live in a world that almost everyone wants to fit in into the so-called “normal life.”

Gossip from friends

The media is deceiving many people to believe that they aren’t enough, beautiful, trendy, and fit for a normal life. These misconceptions have made many felt inadequate, ugly, and unfit to live a happy and successful life. This ideology has therefore affected the lifestyle of our youth. The media would make you think you are ugly or old-fashioned.

The psychological impact is very high. It is time you stop what people or the media think of you. Never feel ashamed of who you are. The Bible says you are fearfully and wonderfully made.

“Never be ashamed of where you came from. Who your family is. Who your friends are. What you do. What you like. How you live. ‘Cause if you are, then you are ashamed of yourself.” —Unknown

Never try to mirror the lives of others or what you see on screens. Most of them are fake! Be real to yourself and you would attract the right people to yourself. These people would help you understand your worth if you barely know.

Handling That Mental Challenge Like Jack Ma

Imagine going for a job interview and your interviewer makes you feel unworthy and incompetent for the job. He thinks you are not worthy. But after that, what do you say to yourself? Will, you succumbed to that demeaning words?

It’s up to you to be mentally strong. Stay positive and stop yourself from being bogged down by what your interviewer thinks about you.

Take the story of Jack Ma for instance: Out of 24 interviewees at KFC he was the only one rejected. The perception is that he is short and not handsome.

He knew how to stop the bad guy from ruining the lofty goals —so he never gave a damn. He stopped caring about what others think about him and ended being one of the richest men on our planet.

His wife Zhang Ying, said he married Jack Ma because he can do a lot of things that handsome men cannot do and that is very interesting. That is life for you. Such kinds of stories can inspire you to believe in yourself and proudly accept who you are.

He transformed all the negative energies hauled at him into something positive. He never succumbed to what people think of him. Allowing yourself to be a slave to someone’s thoughts of you is a serious mental problem that needs to be avoided.

How To Stop Caring About What People Think

1. Never Run Away From Criticism

Whether you like it or not, people will criticize you. More of these would be destructive so you must learn how to stop anyone by developing an immunity. Let what they say flow over your ears like water. And if they sting, never allow it to swell.

Whatever you do people will talk about it. You have to look at the good side and perhaps learn some lessons from their critics. Mature Gambino said:

Stop what people think quote from Mature Gambino

“You can lie down for people to walk on you and they will still complain that you’re not flat enough”. Live your life. – Mature Gambino.

I told you in the early paragraphs that never try to make everyone like you. Being hated, rejected, scolded are all part of what we call “life.” How you handle such situations determines your maturity in life.

-Rita Mae Brown

2. Set Definite Goals

If you have a clear vision of your life, people’s thoughts about you would never hurt you. Because you know what you want to achieve. Just stay focused and work hard towards your lofty goals.

3. Personal Boundary

Setting a personal boundary would help you to stop what people think about you. People who deliberately trespass you consistently are either doing that out of hatred or jealousy. The red flag has already been lifted so stay away from them for your own safety.

The one who has good thought about you and knows your dislikes but keeps on stirring things up is a clear indication of an enemy of progress. Stay away! Cut down any toxic friend or relationship so that you can have peace of mind and maintain a positive mindset.

4. Self Worth

You wouldn’t be misled if you know your value and purpose in life. You are not a dead leaf that moves in the direction of the wind. If you are told to be ‘ugly’, ‘stupid’ ‘useless’, ‘failure’ etc you must not succumb to that. As far as you have a functioning brain; then you can strategize your life in the best way possible to make greater achievement.

5. Surround Yourself With Like-Minded People

As the saying goes; “birds of the same feather flock together” so as you must stay closer to people you share a lot of things in common. They should be people of a positive mindset with good values and trustworthiness.

If you can’t sync with people in your inner circle then you are surrounded by the wrong people. Be wise and know how to stop caring about what people think about you.

They will find negative things to say about any progressive move you make. They will do this to demoralize you. You need a positive mindset to inspire and encourage you to keep on pursuing your lofty goals in life.
