Be Still And Know That I Am God — It’s Time For Your Victory

Going through difficult times may shift your attention from God. Why do you tremble in fear? Your maker is saying be still and know that I am God. What does this mean to you as a Christian?

A man standing still an gazing at the sky

It’s a crazy world and you and I know it well. Life turbulence strikes fear and hopelessness in us. If care is not taken you might forget about your creator. I mean the God who speaks to the wind “be still” (translation from Hebrew is “stop striving“) and there is absolute silence. So, be still and know that I am God. Your inspiration today comes from the book of Psalms:

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalms 46:10).

This is one of the commonest verses you could ever find in the Bible. People use it as an inspirational quote on T-shirts, keyholders, stickers, etc. It simply sends a heartwarming message to the one troubled by difficult life situations.

Instead of stressing yourself about the things making you feel like all hope is gone; look up into the sky for God is about to destroy whatever is destroying your life. His name is the Lord of Heavens Armies.

He requires nothing from you, except your trust and faith in Him. This is the foundation of your strength in your Christian life.

Remember who Bible characters like David, Job, Abraham, Joseph, etc, stayed with God despite their predicaments. God never failed them. Don’t be in haste… He will not fail you too.

I am hopeful this post will find you in good Spirit. It is enough. Let go of that anxiety, fear, hopelessness, and depression. I recommend reading some Bible verses about self-control to help you stay calm in the Lord at all times.

As you read this post, you will find new hope in Christ Jesus before you ever think of giving up on him or giving up in life.

Let me help you clear your troubled mind with something inspiring from the Bible. God says, be still!. Even if your enemies have destroyed your life or valuables, never give up on God.

He has declared that vengeance is mine. He will surely repay anyone who mistreats you in any way. No one will rebel against God and his children and get himself off the hook. He is a just God!

I want you to relate it to the current troubles going on in the lives of many believers in this end time. Is it about death anxiety, failure, financial constraints, joblessness, health disorders? etc.

Let me remind you of God’s unrestrained power to help you understand the simple fact that nothing is too hard for God. I mean nothing!

Listen to that little voice inside your head saying “Be still and know that I am God.”

What Made God Say “Be Still And Know That I Am God?

It all happened when strong armies of the enemies arranged to attack God’s special possession(Israel).

God stepped in and fought the battle for them. He made his children surrender all their troubles to Him and He redeemed them from those mighty enemies.

A particular example of such deliverance was Assyria’s invasion of Judah during the reign of Hezekiah. They were broken into pieces as ships smashed in a storm.

This same God is calling you today to be still and He will:

1. Break down your enemies.

2. Heal you from all your diseases and sicknesses.

4. Open new doors for you.

5. Give you a brighter future.

6. Give you eternal life.

The Psalmist reminds us in Psalms 27:3:

“Though an army is deployed against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.”

According to the Bible, the whole of Psalms 46 portrays how God’s mighty hand can subdue the enemies of his children.

It begins like this:

Be still and know that I am God verse

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas; though its waters roar and are troubled, though the mountains tremble with their swelling. Selah. There is a river, the streams of which make the city of God glad, the holy place of the tents of the Most High. God is in her midst. She shall not be moved. God will help her at dawn. The nations raged. The kingdoms were moved. He lifted his voice, and the earth melted. The LORD of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. Come, see the LORD’s works, what desolations he has made in the earth. He makes wars cease throughout the earth. He breaks the bow, and shatters the spear. He burns the chariots in the fire. “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.” The LORD of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. (Psalms 46:1-11).

Today, the Church is like Israel and God values every single brick in the building. He cares for you in a way that if you call on Him in times of trouble, he will help.

Remember that fear and faith are always in contrast. God wants you to be still, trusting him for deliverance.

Like a bird that trusts in its feathers. Even if it stands on a tiny tree branch there wouldn’t be any cause for alarm. The bird will remain calm. With just a single flip of the wings, it will fly to safety.

But we are humans made in the likeness of God. He lives in us and so He is the one we should trust. He is the omnipotent God capable of doing anything. This is what gives us the confidence to surrender all our troubles to him.

Being Still On A Stormy Sea Just Like Paul

Imagine finding yourself in the middle of the ocean. And here comes a violent storm. You could feel your boat is in a blink of capsizing. As fear grips you, you begin to lose hope. You tremble in fear…

Ship on a stormy sea

But God whispers to you “Be still and know that I am God.” He is reminding you to trust Him. Will you trust Him then?.

Just like when Paul was about to have a shipwreck. The stormy sea didn’t scare him. Because he knew very well that God is with him.

Paul told the soldiers not to throw any of the prisoners overboard. Why? Because with much confidence in God he said everyone on the ship would be safe. They were 260 people on board.

“As day was about to dawn, Paul urged them all to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day you have been in suspense and have gone without food; you have eaten nothing. Therefore I urge you to take some food, for this is important for your survival. For not one of you will lose a hair from his head” (Acts 27:23-4).

Though the ship smashed but nobody died. Paul kept his stillness in times of adversity. He went ahead to instill peace in the hearts of everyone on board. This is what I am doing right now.

I want to encourage you to rely fully on God, irrespective of your problems. May He always comfort your soul and instill peace in your heart whenever you face challenges in life.

We all face stormy weather, but we must always remain calm for the Lord to take control. God is bigger than any storm or any mountain in your life. Just be calm and watch Him!.

Things To Help You Become Still In God

Well, I have already told you about the importance of faith and trust in the Lord. These two are the stepping stones to overcoming fear, anxiety, and all your troubles.

Now, get to know about some of the things you must do to stay calm knowing that God is with you.

Before I go any further, let me introduce you to someone whose painful life experience can inspire you today to fully rely on God’s message that says “Be still and know that I am God!.”

Horatio Spafford

Does he look familiar?. Huh, his name is Horatio G. Spafford. Spafford understood the hurdles ahead of him as a Christian. He knew that life is full of unexpected challenges.

Horatio G. Spafford, as a Presbyterian leader knew that indeed we are not waging war against flesh and blood, but spiritual forces.

He was a successful attorney and real estate investor. In the year 1871, he lost his hard-earned fortune in the great Chicago fire. He also lost his beloved son the same year.

He is the man who wrote this popular hymn “It is well with my soul.”

Spafford tried to help his family overcome the death anxiety that has befallen on them but things rather became worse.

In an attempt to ease the pains, he sent his family to England and decided to join them later…

His wife and four beautiful daughters had a shipwreck while on their way to England. Only the wife survived. More than 200 people died including the four daughters of Horatio Spafford.

This sounds like the tragedy of Job. Who can restore such a big loss?. Only God? Who can comfort such a person?…

In all Spafford never lost hope in God. Memories of his tragedy inspired him to praise God, by writing down such a heartwarming song “it is well with my soul.” Such a brave man in Christ Jesus is worth remembering. Johnny Cash was right when he claimed that Christianity is not for sissies. But it takes a real man to stand firm and fight the good fight!.

He started by saying:

“When peace like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll—
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to know
It is well, it is well with my soul.”

You can find the song here on YouTube.

The Bible has said that in all things, God works out the best for His children. And sometimes, with tearful eyes and a pricked heart, it becomes too hard for us to see.

Life is full of challenges, but the Lord has said He will never allow what is bigger than our strength to strike us. Meaning whatever you are going through right now is relatable. Just be still.

I believe it is time I share with you one or two things that can help you stay calm in times of trouble. I know it is not easy, God knows it is not easy, but He is the God of all flesh, there is nothing too hard for Him.

1. Instill Peace In Your Heart And Mind

Take a look at these Bible verses about peace. They will help you bring your wandered mind home. Stay calm and leave everything in the hands of God.

When there is peace in your heart, you would be able to sense His presence within you. In all, be a peaceful Christian anywhere you find yourself.

Why am I even saying this?. Because many awful situations can stir up anger in you. Depression can fuel your mind with evil thoughts. You may end up being a slave to the Devil. It might be too late then…

2. Use The Right Weapons

God has given us the greatest weapon to fight our battles. A weapon that invokes the Spirit of God to intervene for us when we face afflictions of all kinds.

I am talking about the full armor of God. You must wear this armor all the time. Rely on His word and pray without ceasing(1 Thessalonians 5:17).

He has said, “Be still and know that I am God.” In your stillness, you must tell him all your troubles through prayers. This flexes His muscles to strike your enemies and vindicate you from all your troubles.

Bow and arrow to fight the enemies of God
“He lives in Salem; he dwells in Zion. There he shattered the arrows, the shield, the sword, and the rest of the weapons of war” (Psalms 76:2-3).

Be Silent — Says Our Lord Jesus Christ

This is the man who descended from heaven to heal our afflictions and save us from eternal damnation. His name is Jesus Christ.

In Him, we can find all the good things we need in life. In him, we can find peace, hope, encouragement, the forgiveness of sins, and more importantly eternal life.

He once commanded the violent storm to be silent. And it obeyed him instantly. Jesus is still alive and doing miracles and wonders. Be still and know that he is with you at all times.

“And look, a violent storm came up on the sea, so much that the boat was covered with the waves, but he was asleep. They came to him, and woke him up, saying, “Save us, Lord. We are dying.”  And he said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm” (Matthew 8:24-26).
