Anytime people ask; “Who was King Solomon?”, the first thought is about “ wisdom“, Yes, wisdom. The Bible says Solomon is the wisest man ever to live. He asked for it and God generously gave it to him.

The second thing that comes into thought when people ask of him; is richness or wealth. He is the richest man ever to live.

In terms of money and wealth; our modern-day billionaires such as Bill Gates,  Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, etc, are no match. You may follow the richest men in history here.

Who Is Solomon In The Bible?

Solomon was the son and successor of King David, born of Bathsheba in B. C. 1033. The prophet Nathan called him Jedidiah which means, “beloved of the Lord,” in 2Samuel 12:25. He was a child of promise. After his father’s death, he ascended to the throne at a young age.

Birth And Rise Of Solomon

Scholars are thorn about the exact age of Solomon when he ascended to the throne. The age is said to be 12 years or 15 years.

King Solomon was the son of David and Bathsheba. He was born in B. C. 1033.

“And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him“(2 Samuel 12:24).

God loved Solomon and Solomon loved God. God’s favor on him brought a lot of success to Israel. God gave him wisdom beyond any human. His wisdom helped him to rule over Israel.

“And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that [is] on the sea-shore.” (1 Kings 4:29).

King Solomon’s wisdom attracted people from different regions. Queen of Sheba visited Solomon. She got surprised for seeing the richness and immense wisdom of Solomon.

Some Achievements Of King Solomon

King Solomon achieved a whole lot for Israel. He raised a levy to build the walls of Jerusalem and a house for the Lord. He built cities in all his dominion. Solomon wrote notable books in the Bible. He wrote the book Ecclesiastics.

♦. King Solomon composed 3000 proverbs and 1,005 songs.

♦. He produced manuals on botany, describing every kind of plant, from the cedars of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows on walls. He also produced manuals on biology, describing animals, birds, insects, and fish.

♦. Solomon constructed a pool for himself (Ecclesiastics 2:6). The upper pool is 380 feet in length, and the middle pool 423, and the lower one is 582. Their average breadth is 200 feet and their depth 38 feet.

Aside from all his great achievements, Solomon lost his loyalty to God. He failed to be loyal to God. Unlike his father David, he worships idols of his concubines.

Solomon’s many wives led him to worship idols. He had 700 royal wives and 300 concubines; his wives had a powerful influence over him. (1 Kings 11:3). Solomon ended up worshiping idols. This made God angry because God detests idolatry.

In his old age, he got freed from the entanglements of idolatry, luxury, and lust, B. C. 977.

He died a natural death at the age of 80 years. c. 931 BCE (aged c. 58 – 59) Jerusalem, United Kingdom of Israel.

He said world pleasure is vanity upon vanity. True wisdom is to fear the Lord and keep his commandments.

King Solomon wrote Ecclesiastics in his old age. He described world pleasures as vanity. He has seen it all and found it unworthy for man’s soul. He concluded everything by saying they are all meaningless.

“Having heard everything, I have reached this conclusion: Fear God and keep his commandments, because this is the whole duty of man”(Ecclesiastics 12:13).

God has the power to give and take, bless, curse, heal and do the unimaginable. He is a rewarder of our life activities.
